At the end of last term, we read the story, ‘What the Ladybird Heard Next’, which is about a swarm of bees. After this, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Mark, a local Beekeeper. Mark explained to us what a real swarm looks like, and how they are often looking for a new place to live. He then showed us a real beehive, where the queen bee would live, as well as the super, which is where the honey is stored and where the larva/eggs are laid. He went on to show us pictures of the different bees we may find in our outside area.
Did you know bees like purple flowers? We will be planting plenty of purple flowers to encourage more bees to visit Ashwood. Thank you, Mark!
