Half Term 3 Headteacher Roundup ⭐

Our Ashwood children have been as busy as ever this half term!

Keeping active at lunch times ⚽

At dinner time there are lots of different activities for the children to join in with. The children have a rota for playing team games in our new Multi Use Games Area. They have really enjoyed playing football and will move on to other team sports such as hockey and basketball.

There have been lots of different sporting activities Ashwood have taken part in this half term. These are with the School Sports Games partnership. This half term this included:-

  • Athletics
  • Girls and boys football
  • Dodgeball
  • Boccia

Our sports leaders continue to set up a variety of different activities to keep us all fit and healthy. The children also love to do Zumba and mini disco dances!

We dream big! Careers and aspirations 🌟

The whole school worked with author Daniel Henshaw and the KS2 children completed writing workshops

Year 4 have been working with Grimm and Co on their performance poetry ready for their poetry slam at the Rotherham Civic.

Year 5 and Year 6 learnt about product placement, product design and recycling as part of their workshops with Muller for our STEM work.

Year 6 are continuing their work with HSBC on the TEKK challenge which focuses on skills needed for employment such as team work and innovation. The staff from HSBC have commented on how amazing our children are at working as a team and love their time at Ashwood.

FS2 have learnt all about keeping healthy in their fruit tasting workshop with Rawmarsh Children’s centre. They loved trying different fruits!

Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 have taken part in karate after school club and learnt about different karate positions. Y4/Y5/Y6 have taken part in robotics after school club and learnt more about coding!

School leaders 👏

Librarians – They continue to support in making our library even better for our children. They also read with other children to grow the love of reading through school.

Science ambassadors – They have continued to support classes in scientific enquiry, challenging and supporting learning.

Ashwood musicians – The children learning to play a musical instrument continue to make excellent progress. Children share their musical skills with others in The Hub and teach other children who are interested in playing an instrument. They also perform in our school assemblies to share live music with the children.

Ashwood artists – The children have been working hard on their art skills. Children in Y5 have particularly impressed me this half term with their work on LS Lowry. They have looked at perspective which is a really tricky concept!

Next term The Ashwood Press will be getting our school newspaper up and running. Watch this space! 📝
