Y1 Reading and Phonics

At Rawmarsh Ashwood, learning starts as soon as the children come through the school gate in the morning. Staff utilise every single opportunity to drive progress of early reading and phonics. Children in Y1 quickly settle as they come into school, starting their morning phonics and reading tasks.

They practice the phonemes they have been working on using Bug Club, and start reading activities as they enter the classroom. This is even before the register starts! They then start their full phonics lesson, developing their skills everyday.

Well done, Y1!
