Headteacher Roundup

This half-term has been busy already!

Democracy
We had a visit from our local MP John Healy. He spoke about the role he does as an MP. He worked with our school council. The children spoke about how they had elected their school council members by voting. This forms part of our work in school on democracy for British Values. Our chair of Governors Ms Walker came in to take part in the school council discussion and will do some work with the school council throughout the year to gain their ideas on ways to make the school a better place.

Caring for others
The Foundation stage had a visit with a guide dog for the blind to learn about how guide dogs help people. The guide dog was called Paige. The children were so kind and caring with the guide dog and had some great questions. Well done foundation stage!

Cheerleading!
Y4 had a cheerleading workshop as a taster session. This was run by Sheffield University. The staff and volunteers said how amazing Year 4 were with their positive attitudes to learning!

Leading with way with science!
Our science ambassadors ran amazing experiment workshops in their classrooms. Every class was involved in this and the science ambassadors lead the way with the experiments! The children in pupil’s voice said they wanted more hands-on experiences. This is something we are doing beyond the national curriculum in science.

Keeping our teeth healthy
Classes had a visit by the dental nurse and they discussed the importance of brushing our teeth properly. They used disclosing tablets to identify any areas that they needed to do more careful brushing on. It was surprising how when we brush our teeth there are some areas we miss so we know now to brush our teeth really carefully so we don’t miss these areas!

Books and biscuits
It was lovely to have parents in for the books and biscuits event. 97 parents and carers attended this event which is amazing! It was lovely to have parents and carers in classrooms reading with the children.
