To mark the 200 years celebration of Parkgate, Rawmarsh Ashwood primary worked with the Parkgate history group to take part in the Whit Parade.
Year 1 and Year 2 met with Tony from the local history group to look at photos from the parade in Victorian times.
The aim of the project was bringing people together to celebrate Parkgate’s history and heritage.
Children from Rawmarsh Ashwood Primary School and St. Joseph’s Primary School dressed in Victorian style clothes and were transported to Rosehill park in vintage buses. We held our parade, had a picnic lunch and played traditional games before travelling back to school on the buses.
On the way the children spotted features of local geography, ready for our geography fieldwork coming up over the next few weeks.
Visitors to the park, the heritage bus drivers and volunteers at the local history group all commented on how well behaved our children were, showing excellent manners. This is always amazing to hear!
