Headteacher Roundup – Autumn Term 1

We have started the school year off as always, following The Ashwood Way. These values support our children in guiding them to be the best possible version of themselves, being a good citizen, using manners, and working hard in their learning.

Attendance
Attendance for school for Autumn 1 was 95.1%. Remember every day counts for attendance. The children love coming to school at Ashwood and it is always a pleasure seeing them making progress in their learning when I drop into classes. Keep up the good work!

Phonics and early reading
It has been lovely to see how children are making progress in their daily phonics lessons in class in F2, Y1 and Y2. Children are gaining more and more confidence in their knowledge of grapheme/phoneme correspondence.

This term we are working with the English Hub on completing a phonics audit, looking at the best ways to support our children with phonics.

Celebrating Harvest around the world
Children in Y4, Y5 and Y6 represented school in a Harvest celebration at The High Street Centre. Revenant Louise talked about Harvest around the world. As a school we collected donations for Rawmarsh Foodbank. a big thank you to our families for their donations.

Developing life skills
Y6 have visited Crucial crew to learn more about life skills and becoming even more independent. They learnt about using a bus, law and order and even investigated their very own crime scene!

Sporting activities
Ashwood continue to enjoy a range of sporting activities, tournaments and competitions. This half term children have taken part in Panathlon bowling at Hollywood bowl, The Totty Cup local football tournament, Climbing at the climbing wall and Cross country at Herringthorpe stadium.

Our sports leaders continue to make lunch times an exciting place at Ashwood with activities such as football on the MUGA, skipping competitions, hoola hoop circuits, daily dance activities such as zumba and freestyle amongst others!

Keep up the good work Ashwood and keep shining!
