Y5/6 Rotherham Girls Week Rugby

Last week, girls in Y5 and Y6 represented the school as part of the #LetGirlsPlay initiative. The children worked with the Rotherham School Games team and Rawmarsh Sports Leaders, to learn and develop their rugby skills.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the Titans Community Foundation for working with schools in the borough, to increase activity levels through delivering taster sessions, after school clubs, and other interventions with rugby at the heart. During this rugby skills event, they delivered two stations using the tackle pads and shields, to help the girls learn how to tackle and score a try.

Maltby Rugby Club were also kind enough to host us with Andy and his team supporting the event in multiple ways, such as delivering activities, and providing all children with refreshments. The club delivers free rugby sessions on Tuesday nights for children aged 5-11 to come and try rugby, and develop their skills.

The aim of the week is to inspire as many girls aged 7-16 to be active, especially within their local community. Well done Ashwood!
